Did you hear about the pre-K school that closed, because of a BedBug infestation? Probably not. Since Ohio has more cities on the Top 50 Most BedBug Infested Cities list, than any other State it’s become common place. What isn’t common is: reporting that helps others learn what you need to know about Bedbugs in YOUR kids, school, church, day-care, dance class or other activities.
Hello, my tasty-human friends. I’m MrBedBug, Chief SpokesBug for FLfresh.com and EcoBugFREE, the BedBug Eliminator. I am a TV star on MrBedBug-TV on YouTube and Editor of the BedBug News Reports.com
The reporters at BedBugNewsReports.com were NOT flooded with reports about BedBugs in a Sandusky Ohio pre-K, because it’s not “news” any more. OHIO is the USA leader in BedBug infestations and that won’t EVER change until communities start to work together.
I [the famous MrBedBug] post this all the time, but the basics are: BedBugs are hitch-hikers and cling to any fabric that smells like a tasty-human buffet opportunity. That means YOU [and your children] can come into contact with them, almost anywhere. We report on BedBugs found in businesses, churches, offices, buses, trains, rental cars and DMV offices too. There was a recent flurry of reports all around the USA, about Bedbugs in the Library that we dealt with for a while too. [it was a “me too” media storm, more than any real new info.]
I’m not going to name the pre-K school in this post. It is pointless and bad PR, since they did all the right things. What were the “right things?” Let’s go to the video tape…. As they say on sports TV.
First, the staff were aware and watching for the tell-tale signs of BedBugs. My cousins are creatures of habit. Bedbugs do not magically arrive and set up “shop”. They are arriving with one visitor and leaving with another.
Secondly, ignoring the problem doesn’t make it go away. If you discover a grown adult Bedbug one of two things is true…. Neither are “good”. A> an adult Bedbug has arrived today, and you were incredibly lucky to see it or B> you have a Bedbug infestation and your friends, neighbors and customers are leaving to go home, taking some of YOUR bedbugs with them. Ooops!! The B> option is much more likely.
Bedbugs are the insect world’s best “hide-and-seek” game players. In OHIO, [or other places with huge Bedbug infestation problems] you should assume that everywhere you go, you are exposed to Bedbugs. Go to the movies? Bring home bedbugs. Visiting friends at a holiday party? Bring home Bedbugs.
Bedbugs are equal opportunity feeders. Tasty-humans are the only food source for a Bedbug, but which human?…. well, THAT is up to you.
This pre-K took action ASAP. Notified the parents and the local HealthDept [which doesn’t “care”, because Bedbugs don’t spread disease], then they closed for a though cleaning. Read elsewhere on these pages, How to inspect for Bedbugs and How to clean a Bedbug infestation.
Awareness is the key…. and why we post common sense info on the BedBug News Reports.com web pages.
The more you know about HOW BedBugs live, hide, feed, breed and travel, the better you can protect yourself in the “BedBugs Wars”.
why won’t you tell us which daycare shop has bedbugs. Parents need to know.
Hannah, we didn’t mention the name on purpose, as stated, for two reasons. It was MY decision. I make the rules. I am MrBedBug, the chief editor. What I decide is “law”.
#1 When people “do the right thing” they should be rewarded…. in this case, by NOT getting permanant publicity in Google/Yahoo/Bing searches “forever”. They ID-ed the problem and cleaned it ASAP. In OHIO, there is nothing much more you can do.
#2 BedBugs are not the “fault” of this child care facility. Some parent/child brought the BedBugs in to start the infestation. Would you have me name YOU as the parent who started this mess? Put your child’s name in the news, as a BedBug “spreader”? Stop and think about that, because it’s very easy to be on the other side of this arguement.
#3 BedBugs do not magically appear. They are hitch-hikers, moving from place to place with humans. A movie theater, a DR office/waiting room, the bus or a taxi/train are likely spots to pick up a BedBug too. If you had a “quaranteen list” the Gov of OHIO would need to block the highway borders and close the airports, to keep people with BedBugs from LEAVING, to infect other states. Re-read the link [above] about the Top 50 Most BedBug Infested States.
You have got an interesting website here. I found you doing research on MY problem. I wish my local schools were as pro-active and responsible as this one was. As you know, and I just discovered, you can’t PROVE where a bedbug came from, but I know it was at my child’s school.
The principal didn’t want to talk about it, or send a note home with the kids. I had to raise hell and start a social media gossip chain to get the word out. it turns out, as you know, because I read it on the other page, no one wants to admit to finding bedbugs, so we all suffer alone in silence, together. Look for lots of links to this article from computers near [name of school and town removed] because [name of principal] refuses to do anything, even through I’ve found 12 cases of 5th graders bringing bedbugs home. I don’t want to sue. I just don’t want a repeat episode, and that’s what will happen, unless everyone cleans at the same time, just like lice.
thank Mr BedBug

I’m sorry for your “pain” Mary. Your story is repeated over and over across the country…… which is why we removed the city/specific school and especially the Principal’s name. in editting.
You are correct, a “community” clean-up is the most effective way to stop the spread of BedBugs. All of you [tasty] humans need to work together, because BedBugs are hitchhikers. We travel from one pant leg to a purse, to a pile of clothes in a gym/ locker room/ to the bus, airplane or rental car and on to the next great [human] all-we-can-eat- buffet opportunity.
