BedBugs in New York City NYC

The first Bedbug scandal of 2016 is in New York City

There is nothing like starting a freshly minted new year with a BedBug scandal. I have to laugh, because “BedBug scandals” are what the press does. Is any of this really news? Really? New York City is on the Top 50 Most BedBug Infested cities in the USA, yet here we are: discussing this “news” report

Happy New Year and -Hello-, my tasty-human friends. I’m MrBedBug, Chief Editor /SpokesBug for the BedBug News I am a TV star on MrBedBug-TV on YouTube and follow me on the Twitty-Toy – @MrBedBug.

One of the things we do around here, at the is provide real practical info about Bedbugs. There are SO MANY myths and often repeated folklore/stupidity [about Bedbugs ] on the internet, that we try to offer some perspective. It’s OK to laugh about Bedbugs here. [Bedbugs aren’t funny] but the press coverage and uninformed reactions can be a source of chuckles]
Lets take this newest “scandal”apart and see what we’ve got to “play with”.

1st ….. tourist couple arrives in NewYork City, checking into a hotel room with out inspecting [first thing] for Bedbugs. Sure we agree that all hotels should do this, but come on people- protect yourself.

2nd .. The REASON that The BigApple is on the list of the Top 100 Most BedBug Infested Cities is: Tourist from all over the world bring them to……. Hotels in NYC. Homer Simpson says -“Do’h”

Next, Lets assume that the phone-camera video is legit. [It’s kinda hard to fake this for a […]

BedBugs invade the UN Building in NYC…..again.

Bedbugs are BACK, for revenge at the UN building in NYC. They are hard to kill, like the Afgan rebels of the Russian invasion or the current ISIL terrorist in the middle east. I often say: ”BedBugs are the world’s greatest -hide&seek- game players” , but there is something for all humans to learn here.

Hello my tasty-human friends. I’m MrBedBug, Chief SpokesBug for and EcoBugFREE, the BedBug Eliminator. I am a TV star on MrBedBug-TV on YouTube and Editor of the BedBug News

Bedbugs are hitch-hikers. They cling to any fabric that smells like a tasty-human buffet-opportunity, so NO human is immune or un-available as a target. Rich or poor, the homeless or mansions-matrons, BedBugs are a possibility, because you have contact with public places.

BedBugs are creatures of habit, and they are happy to wait for the next passing buffet-opportunity. [That’s what we BedBugs call humans.] Bedbugs can be found in the movie theatre or the playhouse. We like Dr offices and DMV waiting rooms. The busses and trains are an opportunity to brush-up against someone else with BedBugs in the jacket-pocket or on a shirt-collar. We like riding the streets on NYC in the seat of a cab…..and UBER /Lyft are just a “cheaper” way to be exposed. [If you think driving yourself everywhere solves this problem, what about the valet, who hops in and out of your car?] We also like high-ticket charity events in swankie-homes, especially when coat-check is an option.

To rip-off a TV commercial: Bedbugs… there not just for cheap motels anymore.

Here’s the latest […]

BedBugs are everywhere, including Rental Cars, but THIS is not the solution.

Remember the promise we make at Bedbug News [that we will not make fun of anyone who does silly things to exterminate Bedbugs]. Well, sometimes it is REALLY hard to follow that editorial policy.

Hello my tasty-human friends. I’m MrBedBug, Chief SpokesBug for and EcoBugFREE, the BedBug Eliminator. I am a TV star on MrBedBug-TV on YouTube and Editor of the BedBug News

Todays episode of “Did he really do THAT” comes to us from Long Island NewYork. It seems that Scott Kemery, of Bridgehampton, NY was really upset to discover BedBugs in his rental car. If you’ve spent any time at all reading these Bedbug News pages, you know that BedBugs are common in all public transit modes. Bedbugs are hitch-hikers. We cling to any fabric that smells like you tasty-human buffet opportunities. BedBugs want a free ride back to your home, and a rental car is just as handy an option as any other.

As today’s story goes, our “hero”, Scott discovered Bedbugs and decided to solve the problem himself. Instead to complaining directly to the hire-car/ rental agency, [because the car was from Florida], he decided to “do something”. This man-of-action remembered that folklore he had heard. It sounded like a “plan”, so, believing that rubbing alcohol will kill Bedbugs [it won’t as I’ll explain below] He purchased a bottle and proceeded to “git those suckers”. Here’s the news report…. The police commentary is below.

I am the famous MrBedBug. You can trust me when I say that our pal, Scott doesn’t need […]

New York Daily News has more BAD PR for Bedbugs in NYC, and this time it’s not even “our fault”.

There is more BAD PR for Bedbugs in NYC, and this time “we” aren’t even the biggest problem….but still get the “blame”. Is that fair?

Hello you tasty-humans, I’m MrBedBug, Chief SpokesBug for and EcoBugFREE, the BedBug Eliminator. I am a TV star on MrBedBug-TV and Editor of the BedBug News

We report on news items about Bedbugs in public housing all the time, but today’s situation is different. The New York Daily News has a story today about the deplorable conditions for the temporary housing offered to families by the NYC Department of Homeless Services. Appearently the complaints got “loud enough” to get the attention of a politician [NY State Sen. Tony Avella] who found the conditions “deplorable”.

I agree. BedBugs don’t like filth or grime like ants, and roaches. We like a nice peaceful, warm place, with lots of health, well-feed humans. How are our all-you-can-eat-buffet opportunities supposed to feed the family a health meal without a kitchen or hot water. The only problem is: just as the families get a kitchen and hot water, the NY Department of Homeless Services comes in and kills all the Bedbugs.

Oh well, that’s the life of a Bedbug…. Bad PR, even when the problem is NOT our fault.

Satire is tough to do on the internet. We hope you “got” our humor. What you REALLY need to learn from this New York Daily News story about Bedbugs in the Homeless /shelter housing in NYC is: that BedBugs are a persistent problem everywhere. They are not an indicator […]

5 things you need to know about hotel rooms article, includes Bedbugs [again] but not for the “right” reason.

USAtoday is out with [another] headline grabbing story. They hope it will grab readers [it must have worked, because here I am talking about it], but the facts are a little light. “McPaper” has always been accused of being light on substance in the “news” department, but this article seems designed to just be a PR/support piece for union-housekeepers in the major cities…. with a little “hate” for BedBugs thrown into the mix. I guess I’m overly sensitive, but these “5 myths about hotel housekeeping” do NOT really seem to be…. Umm… myths…. And the “facts about Bedbugs” are missing.

I’m MrBedBug, Chief SpokesBug for and EcoBugFREE, the BedBug Eliminator. I am a TV star on MrBedBug-TV and the Editor of the Bedbug News

I’m not disputing the thesis that hotel housekeeping isn’t a tough and tedious job. Just like the old joke about how people drive rental cars, everyone uses hotel rooms like that too. I get it, but isn’t that the “job description”. Come on! We all know “sanitation engineers”, chemical plant workers and other “nasty jobs” exist. In fact, “TV regular guy”, Mike Rowe has found TV fame with a “Dirty Jobs” show on the Discovery Channel that does nothing but celebrate these “your life could be worse” jobs of all types. Watch episodes HERE

So back we return to the USA today article that you can read HERE. I spend a LOT of time in hotel rooms, both literally and figuaratively [since I am Mr BedBug after all] I do like the idea of a “tip envelope” for housekeeping, and […]

BEDBUGS!!! The Broadway Musical Comedy… celebrating “Opening Night”

I’m MrBedBug, Chief SpokesBug for and EcoBugFREE, the BedBug Eliminator. I am a TV star on MrBedBug-TV, but I never dreamed my family would make the big-time of NYC Broadway theatre…… [pronounced the way William Shakey-Spear would have said it…ie: “Theee-A-tur” ]

Tonight is opening night for BEDBUGS!!! -the musical, at the The ArcLight Theatre on West 71 St. the press release says it a “girl-meets-bug sci-fi-rock-musical-comedy”. That’s sounds like MY life. I like to believe all the girls stay up at night dreaming of me, the loveable and friendly, MrBedbug.

Like most TV shows, movies and musical productions they took some “license”, because the star [Chris Hall as Cimex, the Bedbug] is actually the “bad-guy”. How can that possibly BE? We Bedbugs aren’t “bad guys”. We only want to be your friends. The story line is that “Carly”, the female lead character [played by Grace McLean] is so emotionally unstable that she seeks revenge on BedBugs. She sprays too much “bug-juice” and accidentally creates a super-human-sized army of BedBugs instead. [See, we’ve been telling you that those toxic chemicals used by the franchise pest control contractors were bad for you]

The show is described as Rocky Horror meets Little Shop of Horrors, [without Audrey appearently. LOL] The BedBugs seek world-domination. This MUST be fantasy and comedy; because, as we all know, Bedbugs need humans to be alive and healthy. How else can we feed on your tasty human blood?
BEDBUGS!!! with music by Paul Leschen and books/lyrics by Fred Sauter, direction/choreography by Robert Bartley, and musical […]

BedBugs use the NYC MTA trains to commute to “work” just like everyone else.

One of these days, when I get up the nerve to really do it, I’m going to start taking pictures of myself, out in public, wearing the MrBedBug mask and costume. Maybe that’s the only way train, bus and transit shuttle riders will remember, BedBugs are hitch-hikers. They will go anywhere you do, looking for a meal of “tasty-human” blood.

I’m MrBedBug, Chief SpokesBug for and EcoBugFREE, the BedBug Eliminator. I am a TV star on MrBedBug-TV and Editor of the BedBug News

Today’s BedBug News Report is from NYC [pronounced the way they do in the TV commercial for the authentic Mexican food… “Neew Yerk Sittie”] LOL The New York MTA trains probably had BedBugs, the day it was built in 1828, and used horse-drawn cars rolling down train-tracks on 3rd, 4th, 6th and 8th ave in Manhattan.

Today’s “amazing, but True” news report is that Bedbugs have been found on the –N- line. [that’s sarcasm, boys and girls] The NY Daily News reports the cars were dutifully shipped off to the Coney Island rail yard for fumigation. [Read why fumigation may be the least effective treatment for Bedbugs on, but, ] We’ll need to assume the New York MTA has some experience with BedBug treatments and the press reporter mis-used his words.]

We post to the BedBug News most every day, because it reminds readers that the BedBug epidemic is on-going. This report is about the –N-line, last week it as the –Q-. None of this means anything to you, if you don’t live […]

Why it doesn’t matter if New York City is the #1 “BedBug City in the USA”?

If New York City is not proud of its new distinction as “winner” in the Top 10 BedBug Infested Cities report out today, you can’t blame them . It’s not great PR, but this new resurgence of BedBugs effects people all across the USA… even those who live far from the Big Apple.

From New York’s glamorous high-rise buildings to the smallest public housing complex in Fort Worth Texas, bedbug infestations are “big business” for the national pest control companies. Terminix and Orkin fan the flames to BedBug fear, with these PR announcements of which cities are more [or less] infested. It’s not a competition that any Mayor wants to win.

BedBugs are a growing problem. In the last 3 years, Terminix reports a doubling of it’s BedBug complain calls. Where are all the BedBugs coming from? It’s not an easy question to answer, but the same situations keep repeating themselves, so we have some clues.

The common availability of international travel is an important part of the problem. BedBugs were almost completely eradicated in the USA, but when DDT was banned, [because of safety concerns for children and the weak] there was no research done on alternatives. When the BedBug outbreaks were localized, not much publicity followed. Today, BedBugs are a problem everywhere in the USA and the BedBugs have become “immune” to most of the harsh chemical the pest control contractors use.

The Big Apple had been hit hard. Former President Bill Clinton had an outbreak at his Harlem office, as did retailers Victoria’s Secret, teen clothing store Hollister, the movie theaters in Times Square, […]

Bedbugs in Columbus keeps Hamilton County on the Top 10 list

The “Decade of the BedBug” is in full blown panic-mode here in Columbus. The national pest control companies release a PR-flood of announcement and the media picks up the story. Columbus has a city-wide BedBug infestation….so your neighbor’s homes, the kid’s schools, the movie theater and the Dr offices are all infested with BedBugs, just waiting to follow you home.

While the press reports are a little over-done, the facts are: Ohio has more BedBugs than any other State. Cincinnati tops the list, but it is no great achievement to be ranked #5. The Top 100 Most BedBug infested Cities list is really just a talking point for the local news and a sales tool for the pest control companies. Here is the Columbus Dispatch report about the BedBugs in Columbus and Franklin County.

How do we know the BedBug problem in Columbus/Franklin County is “bad”? When the editors at New York Magazine are proud to report that 6 cities are ranked worse than NYC, those places have a BedBug problem. Here’s the article.

What really matters is: Do you have BedBugs in YOUR home. If each of us would be responsible for our own little corner of Columbus, we would drop from the Top 10 Most Bedbug Infested Cities in a heart-beat. Other cities have done it. You can keep BedBugs out of your life. Read how BedBugs live, hide, breed and travel around Columbus.
