5 things you need to know about hotel rooms article, includes Bedbugs [again] but not for the “right” reason.

USAtoday is out with [another] headline grabbing story. They hope it will grab readers [it must have worked, because here I am talking about it], but the facts are a little light. “McPaper” has always been accused of being light on substance in the “news” department, but this article seems designed to just be a PR/support piece for union-housekeepers in the major cities…. with a little “hate” for BedBugs thrown into the mix. I guess I’m overly sensitive, but these “5 myths about hotel housekeeping” do NOT really seem to be…. Umm… myths…. And the “facts about Bedbugs” are missing.

I’m MrBedBug, Chief SpokesBug for and EcoBugFREE, the BedBug Eliminator. I am a TV star on MrBedBug-TV and the Editor of the Bedbug News

I’m not disputing the thesis that hotel housekeeping isn’t a tough and tedious job. Just like the old joke about how people drive rental cars, everyone uses hotel rooms like that too. I get it, but isn’t that the “job description”. Come on! We all know “sanitation engineers”, chemical plant workers and other “nasty jobs” exist. In fact, “TV regular guy”, Mike Rowe has found TV fame with a “Dirty Jobs” show on the Discovery Channel that does nothing but celebrate these “your life could be worse” jobs of all types. Watch episodes HERE

So back we return to the USA today article that you can read HERE. I spend a LOT of time in hotel rooms, both literally and figuaratively [since I am Mr BedBug after all] I do like the idea of a “tip envelope” for housekeeping, and […]

BedBugs are expensive to exterminate, especially for charity shelter housing.

The pages are here, so you can learn from the mistakes of others and this new story from Chico California is a sad example. It’s just that latest in a long line of charity housing / shelters with BedBugs that are making changes, in attempts to win the BedBug Wars.

I’m General BedBug, Commanding Officer of the BedBug Resistance Army and “battle consultant” to and , EcoBugFREE, the BedBug Eliminator. You can follow my “war-room” briefings to see how the battles move from city to city. I am @GeneralBedbug on the Twitty-Toy and I do postings like this one on MrBedBug’s YouTube Account @ MrBedbug TV.

Lets see what “we” can learn from the decisions and actions of the Torres Shelter.

They are on the front lines of the Bedbug Wars, not because of the low-income or homeless population they serve, but because BedBugs are hitch-hikers. They cling to any fabric that smells like a “tasty-human” all-you-can-eat-buffet. The sad fact is the transient population all across the country are at high risk for Bedbug infestation, because they have no stable home-base.

Most homeowners and apartment renters have some security, that if they “protect” the home-base, that they will have stability. That’s not true with transient populations, who return time after time to the same locations, to come into contact with Bedbugs over and over.

What we can learn here is that awareness and the inspection program has greatly reduced to likelihood of a Bedbug infestation returning to the shelter property. These very same awareness steps can be done by every homeowner. Your kids […]

BedBugs on TV – The Michael J Fox show

Are #Bedbugs funny enough for TV sit-com “gold”? The new Micheal J. Fox show [on NBC] thinks so…. I am @MrBedBug [follow me on Twitter] I was the STAR, hiding in the re-cycled couch that Michael J Fox’s “sister” brought home from the curb…. NOT the other guest, NJ Gov Chris Christie, who popped up unexpectedly too.
Is there an extermination spray for politicians?

I want a TV show of my own. There are lots of adventures I could tell script writers about. Would YOU watch a show about the adventures of MrBedBug? I do have my own YouTube Channel, just search for MrBedBugTV.

BedBugs in San Francisco apartments

I am Mr BugBug [Chief SpokesBUG for]. We built the website: BedBug News Reports, so YOU could learn from the mistakes of others. This report by Juliette Goodrich of KPIX CBS-5 TV shows us why BedBugs in San Francisco are so bad, the city is recognized on the annual “Top 10 Most BedBug Infested Cities” list again in 2013.
There are many myths about BedBugs in San Franciso, some of them repeated here, so lets take the report apart, piece by piece and see what we can learn

I want to start at the “end”. Landlords and apartment management have a tough job. BedBugs are becoming tougher and tougher to kill. They have become immune to many of the harsh toxic chemical that [state-licensed] pest control companies use. BedBugs are the insect world’s best “hide and seek” players too, but that’s no excuse to say…. we can’t do any more, because EVERY apartment complex has BedBugs. First, it’s not true and secondly, You can clean YOUR BedBug infestation problem in San Francisco, with effecient and effective tools.

Now, Let me go back to the residents. Throwing away all furniture was unneccessary, but it probably was a good idea not to buy new/replacements, until the infestation is cleaned. The temptation is to “move away”, but that may compound the problem. BedBugs are hitch-hikers. They cling to any fabric that smells like a human. One tenant could move away and take the infestation to the next apartment complex. We see this over and over. This is why you hear news reports of […]

Everyone wants to be a “star” in Hollywood… even Bedbugs

Everyone knows Hollywood is full of creeps and pests that seem to come out each night. Usually it’s the two-legged kind with a fancy suit, a leased car, and a good story to tell, but now you can add REAL pest to the list….. BedBugs. Los Angeles is on the list of the Top 10 Most BedBug Infested Cities. It’s not the PR that the Mayor, the Chamber of Commerce or the Film Commission is proud of, but Mr BedBug, the Chief SpokesBug for is excited. Since every other “character” in LA gets work in TV/movies, he thinks he should too. Just like the other “wanna-be stars, MrBedBug has a TV channel on YouTube and the required FaceBook and Twitter-Toy followers too.

Mr BedBug is not a celebrity you’ll see any starlets hanging around with, at least not on purpose. That doesn’t change the “headline”. The celebrity-filled city of Los Angeles [and the Hollywood hills too] is #3 on the list of the Most BedBug Infested Cities in America. The bug-guys at Terminix want to sell you pest control services, so they publish the Top 100 BedBug Infested Cities list each year, and LA is a “Top 10” winner. When Telly Savalas asked “who loves ya, baby?” Mr BedBug said: I do! I do !

BedBugs are a national epidemic and these webpages at BedBug News Reports are here to help you learn from the mistakes of others. BedBugs do […]

BedBugs in Los Angeles “bug” renters….and LandLords

Los Angeles is on the Top 10 BedBug Infested Cities list for a reason. They are everywhere, including the glittery hills of Hollywood. When tenants, landlords and the LA County Health Department can’t work together it creates “drama in Tinsle-town”.

This news report by Ana Gargia of NBC4 TV News is pretty common, and there is a lot to learn about BedBugs… and how to deal with a BedBug infestation in Los Angeles.

Lets start with the tenant(s). Early detection is key. The earlier you are aware of the BedBugs, the easier it is to KILL them. They did the right things, just not effectively. The first indication of trouble most homeowners [in all of the Top 100 BedBug Infested cities] notice is the red-bump, BedBug bite marks. [We will talk about the use of those “insect foggers, later in this post.]

Next, Lets talk about the landlord. BedBug infestations are expensive to deal with. Hotels/Motels don’t like the cost, when they are accused of being a source of Bedbugs. Airlines, movie theaters and other public places don’t like claims of BedBugs either, but they are a reality. BedBugs are everywhere in Los Angeles. In fact, Mr BedBug, [the Chief SpokesBug for] has his own TV Channel, MrBedBugTV at YouTube, because he has dreams of “stardom”, like every other semi-celebrity arriving on a bus from Paluka-Ville.] A landlord with BedBug problems needs to read the newsletter -13 Things every Landlord should Know about BedBugs at It’s a good “script” for tenants to read too. Essentially, […]

BedBugs on TV – The Simpson’s bring BedBugs to Springfield.

I am Mr BedBug, the Chief SpokesBUG for It is my job to spread the word about BedBug infestations. [Follow me on the Twitter-Toy @MrBedBug] I’ll take help anywhere I can get it, so it was nice to see The Simpsons TV show use a BedBug infestation in Springfield as a teaching moment. It was even more impressive that the humor didn’t hide correct and accurate facts about how my BedBug community lives, hides and spreads from place to place.

So often the pages of BedBug News are filled with comments about local TV reporters and newspaper writers who repeat folk-lore and myths. I try to go out of my way to praise those who take the time to be accurate. Thanks to Homer Simpson, you got a fun bit of info about how transferable BedBugs are.

One other important point, Much like Krusty the Clown’s “BedBug spray”, much of what is sold in retail and home improvement stores is ineffective. BedBugs really are different from ants, roaches and spiders. They are entomologically different, so “Bug-Bombs” and household sprays just won’t be effective, but the EPA and the FTC doesn’t regulate what brand-name pest control companies can “claim” on the side of a can. HERE’s the TIP-OFF: if the label says: Repel [and kill] BedBugs – It’s not going to solve your problem. The LAST thing you want to do is “repel” BedBugs. They will just run and hide, deeper in your home, only to return, with another generation of off-spring to attack again.

Know the facts. Read more, learn how #BedBugs […]

BedBugs in San Jose / South Bay Coffee Shop

When locals in “Silicon Valley”, thinks bugs … what comes to mind are the software variety, but BedBugs in San Jose and Santa Clara County are a growing problem. The vampire-insect, we know as BedBugs are on an upsurge. Local area pest control contractors report increases in cases of between 5x and 15x, since 2008 [depending on who’s statistics you believe.] Even the smallest growth projections are not a happy trend.

There is a reason MrBedBug says: “Hello, my tasty-human friends”…. As reported in the NBC/Bay Area TV news piece above, BedBugs are hitch hikers and they will cling to any fabric that smells like a human. This means they can be anywhere “tasty-humans” gather. The StarBucks Coffee shop probably doesn’t appreciate the publicity, but the fact is, BedBugs in San Jose / Santa Clara County are a growing problem. Because they are mobile, when an area “arrives” on the “TOP 100 Most BedBug Infested Cities” list, BedBugs are everyone’s problem. A single infestation in one apartment complex spreads BedBugs to school with the kids, to work with mom and dad, plus church, movie theaters, DR offices, libraries….and yes, Starbucks too.

The entomologist argue about “why” BedBugs are a growing problem. It is true they are becoming immune to the common pesticides, frequent travel by a wider, diverse population helps them spread and a lack of awareness here in San Jose makes it easy to start new infestations in more and more homes, but YOU DON’T CARE. A BedBug infestation in San […]

Top 50 Most BedBug Infested Cities in the USA

There is a scene in the Steve Martin comedy movie [called “The Jerk”] inwhich the character [Navin R. Johnson] is overly-excited by the arrival of the new phonebook. He thinks he is “somebody”, because his name is in print. The old saying, “any publicity is good publicity” does NOT always apply….. like when the new annual “Top 50 Most BedBug Infested Cities in the USA” list is published.

Contrary to what “Navin” believes [“This is the kind of spontaneous publicity that “makes people”] most Mayors, Chambers of Commerce and City Health Departments would rather NOT be recognized for the inglorious achievement of being on the list, but there they are. Both Orkin and Terminex play this game with PR/news releases as a way to hype the franchise pest control services they sell. The list are not really very scientific, but actually based of the number of service calls received in each city. This introduces reporting variables that have nothing to do with the level of BedBug infestations, but lets allow them to have their “fun” at the expensive of Municipal reputation all across the USA.

Here is the Top 50 Most Bed Bug Infested Cities List [per the newest Orkin press release.]

1. Chicago Il (moving up +1 spot to be the New #1, like Casey Kasum used to say)
2. Detroit MI (up +1)
3. Los Angeles Calif (up +2)
4. Denver Colo (holding steady at #4)
5. Cincinnati Ohio (down the list -4 places, but everyone else in Ohio is “catching-up” fast. )
6. Columbus, Ohio (still ranked #6, but workin’ hard to break that Top 5 goal.) […]
